Kentucky University Randolph Morris’ suspension was reduced to 14 games this Thursday after he tried to enter the NBA draft.
According to the NCAA some of the new information that helped to soften Morris’ punishment was the fact that he clearly intended to retain his collegiate eligibility while he was declaring for the draft.
Morris declared he had made some bad decisions, like accepting bad advice and putting distance between him and his coaches and teammates.
The command of comparisons that develops with age is, while no doubt good for the mind, somewhat numbing for the emotions. It is a wonderful thing to be able to look at an Italian cathedral and recognize the classical influences upon its Gothic, but it is still more wonderful to look at it altogether unaware, altogether open to its fascination. Literature is more thrilling before critical relativity arises; the worst of wine, in the early years of ones life, is better than the best toward the end; and as to your first love, earnestly though you may deny it to later partners and even to yourself, nothing will ever match its ecstasy, laced as it is likely to have been with reckless innocence.
—Jan Morris (b. 1926)
The NCAA Basketball player won’t be able to play on Kentucky's nonconference schedule until the Southeastern Conference opener on January 10th 2006 against Vanderbilt.
The basketball team have been struggling with their inside game without Morris, who started 33 of 34 games last season with an average of 8.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

I pondered all these things, and how men fight and lose the battle, and the thing that they fought for comes about in spite of their defeat, and when it comes turns out not to be what they meant, and other men have to fight for what they meant under another name.
